Teen Sensation Mirra Andreeva Stunned Iga Swiatek to Reach Dubai Semifinals

World number two Iga Swiatek suffered a shocking exit from the Dubai Tennis Championships after a 6-3, 6-3 quarter-final loss to 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva.

The Russian teenager made history as the youngest player to ever reach the semifinals of the tournament. Despite trailing 3-1 in the second set, Andreeva stormed back, winning five consecutive games to defeat the five-time Grand Slam champion in just one hour and 36 minutes.

Andreeva will now face either Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina or American Sofia Kenin in the semifinals later on Thursday.

Reflecting on her victory, Andreeva admitted, "Honestly, I was really nervous before the match. We played in Cincinnati last year, and it was pretty intense. I just reminded myself to stay aggressive and go for my shots."

She also acknowledged the crowd's split support, adding, "It wasn’t easy with all the fans backing Iga, but I had a lot of people supporting me too."

This win marks another milestone for the rising star, who has now defeated both of the world’s top two players in the past year, following her victory over world number one Aryna Sabalenka at the French Open quarterfinals.

Andreeva also becomes the youngest player since Nicole Vaidisova in 2007 to secure five wins against top-10 opponents, solidifying her status as one of the brightest prospects in tennis.
